HP CF226A MICR Toner for HP LaserJet Pro M402 in R & D
HP has just released a new series of printers, the HP LaserJet Pro M402 Series of printers. These new printers will replace the popular HP LaserJet Pro M401 Series. We are developing a the CF226A and CF226X New MICR Toner cartridge for the M402 Series. The CF226A cartridge is rated for 3,100 pages and the CF226X is rated for 9,000 pages. Any M402 series printer can use the standard or high yield toner cartridge.
The printer is fast at 40ppm and 5.6 seconds for the first page out. The recommended monthly page volume is 750 to 4000 pages. The printer comes with a CF226A cartridge, not a starter cartridge. HP has 4 varients, the M402n, M402dn, M402dw and M402d.
We’re hoping to release the CF226A MICR toner cartridge and CF226X MICR toner cartridge in early November 2015.
Advantage Laser Products Aquires IPS of Boston
October 10, 2015 – Advantage Laser Products has acquired IPS of Boston. IPS of Boston is a software company specializing in positive pay and check printing software. Advantage Laser Products will continue to support IPS’s flagship products Double Check, Checks On Demand and Achieve! ACH Software.
We are really excited about the synergy created by bringing on IPS of Boston. We will be able to offer our customers access to positive pay software as well as bring increased value to IPS customers.
We see Positive Pay as a great way for businesses to protect themselves from check fraud. How it works – with positive pay, a business uploads a list of checks to the bank with the check number, payee and amount. The bank will only clear these checks for the stated amount. Any fraudulent or modified check will not clear.

New: HP LaserJet M604, M605, M606 MICR Laser Printers
We’ve just released the HP LaserJet M604, M605, M606 series of MICR laser printers. These printers directly replace the HP M601, M602 and M603 series of MICR laser printers. These printers have proven to be very reliable and the are the go to printer for medium to high volume laser check printing. The newer 600 series printers are faster and add a few features, but for the most part are very similar to the previous series.
What makes these printers a MICR Laser Printer for Check Printing? They come with a New MICR HP CF281A MICR toner cartridge. So if you are buying a printer for check printing and need a MICR toner cartridge for it, this is the least expensive route. The printer doesn’t come with the e13b MICR font, but you can add that on.
As with the previous LaserJet M601N, the M604N also doesn’t accept the high yield toner cartridge. So if you are printing more than 5,000 checks a month, buy the M605N as it will accept the 25,000 page CF281X high yield Micr toner cartridge. If you buy the M604N it only takes the 10,500 page CF281A standard yield MICR toner cartridge. By spending a few extra dollars up front, you not only get a faster printer (8ppm faster), you will quickly pay for the increased investment by saving .78 cents per page. It doesn’t sound like much but when you are talking about 25,000 pages per cartridge vs. 10,500 pages, those pennies stack up quickly.
Example: 5 CF281A cartridges at 10,500 per cartridge will print 52,500 pages for $1,345. Or you could buy two CF281X MICR Toner at 25,000 per cartridge for $892. So after just two high yield cartridges you would have saved $453 in toner savings. The M605N only costs an additional $255 over the M604N. After your second High Yield MICR Cartridge you’ve covered your initial investment and saved an additional $198. This is a no-brainer. While we recommend the M605N, it is hard to justify the M606 series. These printers add still more speed (4ppm) and some bells and whistles, but the additional $580 (M605DN to the M606DN) doesn’t seem worth it. Still if you want the best, the M606X is the printer for you.
HP LaserJet M604N MICR Laser Printer – 50ppm from $870
HP LaserJet M605N, M605DN, M605X – 58ppm from $1,125
HP LaserJet M606DN, M606X – 62ppm from $1,895
HP MICR Laser Printer Sale – HP P1102W with MICR Toner Cartridge $149
We’ve just received a shipments of HP LaserJet P1102W printers. We got these at a great price and we are passing the savings along to you. For a limited time we have the HP LaserJet P1102W laser printer with CF285A MICR Toner Cartridge for only $149 plus shipping. Our standard price is $199. If you were to buy the CF285A MICR toner cartridge by itself, you would pay $120. So for an extra $29 you get the cartridge and the printer. These are genuine new HP printers with a new Hewlett Packard toner cartridge. Note the cartridge that comes with the P1102W is a starter cartridge. Starter cartridges have a smaller toner reservoir and therefore hold less toner. The CE285A starter cartridge is designed to print 800 pages, half that of the standard CE285A. We’ve removed the standard toner and replaced with magnetic toner (MICR) for check printing.
This printer is great for small volume check printing. If you are printing less than 500 checks per month, this is the printer for you. At this price this is a great opportunity for a backup printer or a dedicated check printer, saving you the hassle of swapping your standard and MICR toner cartridges out each time do you a check run.
If you print more than 500 checks per month you may want to look at one of HP’s larger printers. These printers are faster and have a much lower cost per page.
New Products Release: HP CF281A CF271X MICR Toner for HP M604, M605, M606
HP recently released the new HP LaserJet M604, M605 and M606 monochrome laser printers. We’ve just finished developing new MICR toner for the CF281A and CF281X that are used in these new laser printers. As with the CE390A and CE390X toner cartridges the CF281X High Yield toner cartridge will not fit in the slowest LaserJet in this series, the M604. These cartridges are new, not remanufactured. We start with a new HP cartridge, remove the original toner, replace the toner with MICR toner for check printing. All toner cartridges are tested to be sure they meet ANSI standards.
HP CF281A MICR Toner – New, Page Yield: 10,500, Cost: $269, Cost per page: 2.69 cents
HP CF281X MICR Toner – New, Page Yield: 25,000, Cost: $446, Cost per page: 1.78 cents
We ran our first CF281X MICR Toner cartridge dry, printing at only 2% coverage. The printer printed 65,000 pages flawlessly. We were impressed that the other components of the toner cartridge didn’t wear out despite printing far beyond it’s 25,000 page rating.
LaserJet M605 & M606 Highly Recommended
The M604, M605 and M606 printers are really just the M601, M602 and M603 printers with a new look and a few new features. We feel that is a good thing as the previous series of these printers has proven them highly reliable. If you are a heavy user, this is a great printers and you can’t go wrong buying one.
Buy the M605 or M606, not the M604 printer
The downfall of the M604 printer is that it cannot use the higher yield CF281X toner cartridge. When you look at cost per page, the CF281A MICR Toner prints at 2.69 cents per page at 5% coverage, while the high yield CF281X prints at 1.78 cents per page. That’s almost one cent per page. At first it doesn’t sound like much but over the life of the printer, the savings is significant. Assuming you are printing checks with new MICR toner cartridges and over the life of the printer you print 500,000 pages at 5% coverage, you’ll use 20 81X cartridges or 50 81A cartridges. The savings would be $4,530 if you opt for the 81X high yield cartridge. Easily covering the extra $400 you plunk down to buy the M605 over the M604. Plus as a bonus the M605 and M606 printers print faster anyway.
Set paper type to Bond
If there is a downfall to these printers, it’s that they print almost too fast to fuse properly. In our tests, when printing check stock (24 lb) which is heavier than standard copy paper (20 lb), we had to set the paper type to bond to slow the printer down a bit. With the paper set to plain paper, we found with some effort we could use our thumbnail to remove some toner. With the paper set to bond mode the toner could not be dislodged. Setting the paper type to bond slows the printer down from 60ppm to 50ppm giving the printer time to properly fuse the toner to the paper.
Note: the CF281A and CF281X also fit the HP LaserJet Series M630 and M625 MFP printers as well.
New Product: HP M201DW MICR Laser Printer
We’ve added the HP M201DW to our lineup HP MICR laser printers. The M201DW replaces the P1606dn MICR laser printer. The HP M201DW MICR laser printer includes a HP CF283A MICR toner cartridge. The M201DW costs less and delivers more features. For $225 you get a 26ppm laser printer with CF283A MICR toner cartridge, duplexing and USB, Ethernet and wireless connectivity. This printer is designed for single user light-medium business use with a suggested monthly print volume of 250 – 2,000 pages per month.
New Printers From HP – M630 and M201 Series
HP has two new additions to their printer line up, the M630 Series and the M201 Series.
The M201 series currently only has the LaserJet Pro M201dw. This is a small printer for low volume. The M201dw prints up to 26ppm and has a montly duty cycle of 15,000 pages. The M201 comes with the HP CF283A toner cartridge rated for 1,500 pages. The high yield CF283X rated at 2,200 pages is also available. Curently we sell the CF283A New MICR Toner Cartridge. We assume the M201dw will likely replace the P1606dn printer. Expect a CF283X new MICR toner cartridge in December 2014.
The M630 series consists of three high end MFP printers, the M630h, M630z and M630f. These enterprise grade MFP’s range in price from $2,799 to $4,999 and include a 8″ touchscreen making them incredibly easy to use. The M630 series has a monthly duty cycle of 250,000 pages. The M630 series use the HP CF281A and CF281X toner cartridges rated at 10,000 and 25,000 pages respectively. Currently Advantage is not offering a CF281A MICR Toner Cartridge nor a CF281X MICR toner cartridge. We are currently evaluating the CF281A and CF281X MICR toner cartridges. There is no ETA for their release.
